minling's salary guide of the modern era+ law interview (Saturday, May 8, 2010 / 7:58 AM)

i didnt know my recent cut and paste post on salary would generate such furore with people asking me and discussing with me online about salary and stuff.i sincerely thought that most of my peers.so yeah instead of spamming my own tagboard i would just say what i know and hopefully provide a guide of what your salary is like in the future.Do not quote me on this! the market is volatile!and i cant be bothered to provide links to justify my knowledge there is always google go do it yourself!

do not trust certain published salary guides! their pay is wayyy to high.

Firstly i shall discuss science and tech cos most of my peers are in the science stream.medicine is obviously thought to be the tops but it is a long hard slog to the top.Not only do you have to complete five grueling years of medical school and one year of inhumane housemanship, you are also bonded to the government for five years, when you break bond,it is at a price of 5k/month,hence 60k per annum.

the housemanship i heard is really inhumane.house officers have to do the sai kang work, like checkups and stuff while getting paid 2.5k a month(compared to aussie abt 5.5k)they also have to cover for the doctors that go home and some end up staying until 5am the next day and not having a day off for two months straight.this is information i got from relatives and forums, but from the consistency of the complaints i think it is true.after the five year bond you can start to get further education...specialize and stuff. though surgeon ave is 25k bt it varies vastly from no. of hours doctors work and nature of specialization.for example gastrointestinal and cardio would earn more than paeds and geriacs

Pharmacy the average starting pay is the highest among the FOS( 3k plus),because it is a specialized profession unlike life sci which is more general.plus pharm people are usually med and dentistry rejects and are probably smart ass but fell short anyway. or smart ass people who are afraid of blood and gore.the main scope of your job is to sit in watsons all day looking bored and playing iphone while distributing clarinase randomly to sniffly users.and get paid.though the better paying ones are usually in hospitals.yet pharm can get boring and monotonous and repetitive and not recognized as a specialty( don worry engineers go through the same shit),unless u do research and stuff, which i would reccomend u get a pharmacy phD.since we dont really need so many researchers actually...

the rest of the subjects in the sciences imo is only worth pursuing if u get 1st class hons and further ur studies.or else youll mostly likely end up doing something totally unrelated from your job when you graduate...then end up along the people who regretted their choice in uni.but then follow your heart! do something you like! dont whine about choice and embrace the challenges that life throws you! hurrah! hurrah! the writer is an obnoxious idiot!

more to come next time!
